Board Meeting Minutes
CAAAN, TiffanyThree high school students from Berkshire County were accepted to Cornell this year. They are from Lenox High School (2 students) and Mount Greylock. We await word as to their decisions.. News from campus, from SharaA group of Cornellians from the Ornithology Lab recently made history by citing and recording the Ivory-billed woodpecker in an Arkansas swamp. The bird was believed to have been extinct for 60 years. Snoop Dog will perform at Slope Day this year, so security is very tight on campus. The VP of Development has resigned to take a job at Yale. Treasurer's Report, MartyThe current balance in our account is $3,162.48. This includes deposits to date for the May 22 event. Membership, LaurieTwo people renewed membership with the May 22 event. Several of the letters sent to announce the event were returned due to incorrect addresses. Toby will give Sunshine the updates and then send the information to Shara to pass along to the Cornell database. The committee set a membership goal for the next year at 105, a 5% increase. Laurie will compose drafts of two letters, one to be sent to current members and the other to prospective members. The regional office will contact alumni nearby in Northern Connecticut and Southern Vermont to let them know about us. Judy will identify which zip codes in Litchfield County are reasonable to contact. Toby will contact the Presidents of the Vermont and Hartford Cornell Clubs to explain that our goal is to provide an option for people who are physically closer to us. Elections, TobyFour board positions expire at this year's annual meeting: Phil Gellert and Judy Katz, members at large, Hilda Levine, VP of Programming and Kathy Erickson, recording secretary. Phil and Judy have agreed to serve another term. Hilda is interested in taking on a new position. Kathy is happy to continue as secretary, but is considering serving as VP of programming. The board agreed that there should be a programming committee. Toby announced that the upcoming year will be her last as President. ProgrammingIncluding board members, 13 people have signed up for the May 22 talk by Gene German. An email reminder will be sent to the membership. We can arrive at the Stockbridge Library at 3:30 to set up. Refreshments will be brought by Hilda (cheese&crackers), Kathy (fruit & garbage bags), Judy (lemonade & grapes), Toby (iced tea), and Carol (tea sandwiches). Toby will bring the $25 check for the library and paper goods. Hilda will bring a thank you gift for the speaker. The contract from The Lenox Club for the annual meeting on August 28 arrived. We will charge $30 for member and guests, $35 for non-members and $25 for 4-12 year olds before the deadline. All prices will go up by $5 after the deadline. We will work on having available for purchase the fall book, Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe. A bookmark with dates of upcoming events would be a nice reminder. The cooking event at Wheatleigh will not occur this year. The fall winery tour date was changed to September 25. The next board meeting will be Thursday, June 30 at 7:00 at Toby Levine's house.
