CAAAN Report

One student from Columbia County and one student we know of from Lenox will attend Cornell in the fall. Shara encouraged the board to request a list of entering freshmen from the admissions office. We will invite the entering freshmen and their parents to the annual meeting and present each the gift of a year membership in the Cornell Club of the Berkshires upon their graduation.

There was discussion of setting up an award for one junior in each high school and presenting a sweatshirt to encourage applicants. Phil will look into providing the funds for Columbia County and the club will be responsible for Berkshire County, perhaps with raffles at the annual meeting and Zinck’s night.

Programming

The Gene Greman event was well received. The Stockbridge library worked well and there were about 40 people in attendance, despite the low initial numbers.

Annual meeting: The contract with the Lenox Club has been signed (no tax is being charged). Tiffany will sell the book club books and keep a list of names. We will only plan children’s activities if a good number of families register. After much discussion, the board decided to rent a sound system for this year and consider buying one in the future. Judy agreed to help coordinate the rental. Laurie and Judy will look into centerpieces and Hilda will check if a screen is available for the speaker.

Hilda is sending in preferences for a spring speaker from Cornell. The Millbrook Winery event is set for September 25. There is a bring-your-own picnic followed by a tasting, with a $5 fee. An email reminder will be sent and Kathy will be the contact person for club members. Zinck’s night is October 20. Hilda or Toby will ask Carol Sabot if she is willing to coordinate with Firefly for the event.

Board members gave feedback for a report to Cornell.

The next board meeting will be Thursday, August 4 at 7:015 at Toby Levine’s house.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Erickson
Secretary
