Annual Meeting

As of the meeting we have 45 adults and 4 children coming to the annual Meeting. Kim Bixler, was asked and agreed to do some decorating. Tentative time schedule: 10:30 crudités and bloody marys or mimosas; 11:15 11:30 food; meeting called to order around 12:15, new business, recognize students who will attend Cornell in fall; 12:30, speaker, who will probably speak for 20 minutes and then there will be question period. Dessert to be served after the speaker.

We will make a concerted effort to get more attendees at the event. Lists were divied up with Phil and Bill taking Columbia County, and almost all others helping with calls in the Berkshires.

New Business

Kafka's The Trial is the book for first-year students and will be the book for our fall discussion group. Shara will be picking up copies at the Cornell bookstore and bringing them to the Annual Meeting. A motion passed to present a by-laws change at the Annual Meeting that divides the secretarial position into a Communications Secretary and a Recording Secretary.

Elizabeth Young reported on a meeting she attended in Boston with other CAAAN chairs. The goal of CAAAN is to recruit. Members of the committee act as ambassadors, meet with applicants and encourage them to consider Cornell. Second, they provide some information to admissions. Six of our members have agreed to serve on the committee. We'd like to have some recent grads. It is suggested CAAAN members meet in September. They also should talk to high school guidance counselors.

It was also suggested we give a Cornell gift, for example, a book, sweatshirt, or t-shirt to a deserving junior. We will find out if high schools have college fairs. Elizabeth also noted that Cornell has a new View Book and will be a using common application.

Next meeting was not announced.

Respectfully submitted,
Carol Sabot
